ICE – IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Category: Generalllabree @ 3:31 pm

Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone.

‘ICE’ – ‘In Case of Emergency’

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn’t know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?  Hence this

 ’ICE’ Campaign

The concept of ‘ICE’ is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell (mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name ‘ICE’ (In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn’t know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation,  Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as ‘ICE.’

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

A great idea that will make a difference!

Let’s spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.

Guess what I did Sunday…

Category: Generalllabree @ 10:45 am

Patriots and the Rams at Gillette Stadium!

My uncle Parker just happened to have an extra ticket to Sundays game and I just happened to have nothing to do that day.  It was pouring rain and howling wind when we drove out of Maine, but at the stadium it was bright blue skies and sun.  It was a great afternoon for a football game.  Patriots win 23-16.

The last Putters party.

Category: Generalllabree @ 10:31 am

All good things must come to an end.  I guess the good is objective overall, but in the case of Putters’ Parties they were definitely something to remember.  Putters is the Bar and Grill on the Rockland Public Golf Course which my uncle Jeff and his family have operated for the last 9 years.  This was his last season.  We’ve attended regular parties and special events here with friends and family for years, some of the best of which are the Halloween and Closing (for the season) parties.  This year combined the Halloween party and the last Closing party.  In classic fashion we committed ourselves to our costumes, and to having a too much fun.  Jeff now moves on to be a full time Maine Guide and Putters moves on to someone else. Even though we won’t be gathering there anymore, knowing my friends and family, we’ll just move the party to a new location.

Thoughts on motivation, hypocrisy

Category: Generalllabree @ 9:52 pm

No workout today. Out to dinner and a movie with the new wife! The one guy who was actually interested in following my Bowflex posts is now probably like “WTF this guy sucks”. Well, I do not suck, I’ve just been busy. I promise I will be back with a BC post soon. It’s obvious how easy it is for people to get sidetracked from fitness when life happens. We (people) just need to work fitness into life as an important and uniteruptable part… Making time, would seem to be one of the hardest parts about working out, but it’s really not. It’s the will to motivate yourself to action that is the hardest part to master. If you’re motivated you’ll find the time and a way. So far the Bowflex blogs have kept ‘getting exercise’ at the top of my mind, I now just need to draw some energy and motivation from somewhere to start back up after a few weeks off.

Oh, also I forgot to mention, I was pretty damn sick at the end of September so that put a hold on the workouts as well.

Now it’s time to relax, a glass of wine, your favorite easy chair, just sit back and enjoy the melodies…

It’s supposed to snow tomorrow…

Category: Generalllabree @ 11:08 pm

I said I’d start the Bowflex posts up on Monday… guess I lied.  Wednesday sounds good, I’ll go with that.  Motivation to start working out is like moving a long train, it takes awhile to get up to speed, but once it’s moving it’s hard to stop.

I’ve taken my Olympus DSLR around a lot and taken a lot of photos that I’ve yet to go through and edit or post anywhere to share.  I’ve started that process.  I’ll be trickling photos into my flickr gallery again, so that’ll be cool.  If you haven’t seen my flickr gallery, check it out, I’ve taken some very cool shots through the years.

Here’s a photo of me taking a photo and the photo that I photographed.

Photos, Posts & Workouts

Category: Generalllabree @ 10:35 am

What a whirlwind the last couple weeks have been.  I’m a married man now.  My beautiful bride and I have traveled all over the state in the last couple weeks, from Rangeley to Rockland and everywhere in between.  Things are just starting to get back to ordinary, including having our apartment almost back to normal… except for the mountain of wedding presents covering my desk and the Bowflex, a direct result of which is the lack of Bowflex Challenge posts.  Monday the 20th is the start of of our first full (work) week at home since we got married, so I’ll be starting my Bowflex posts back up on that day.  Sadly, since I only had a few of them under my belt before having taken all this time off, the photos probably aren’t going to show any “results”, not quitting though, refocused and ready to go.  I’ll get wherever I’m going eventually.

I’ve been working on going through the 488 wedding photos that our photographer Matt Watkins took at the ceremony and reception, I’m about 1/3 of the way through the rough selection process, then I have to refine those selections, then I’ll be cropping and tweaking them to my liking and then posting them all online for you to see.  There are some truly great photos so be on the look out for those soon.  For those of you who had cameras there, I’ll be creating a gallery that you can post your photos to directly, my goal is to have the one professional gallery and then a huge gallery with shots from friends and family.

Scrabble

Category: Generalllabree @ 6:47 pm

As exciting as it sounds, it actually really was. Jess and I played an extremely copetitive game of Scrabble the other day. We found an old abused Scrabble set in the main lodge and decided to kill some time. Luckily the iPhone App Store had a free Scrabble Dictionary, which I downloaded, or else we probably would have killed eachother. Final score: 343 to 320, Jess won. Best game of Scrabble I’ve ever played, we used every single piece!
