Tris and Katies Wedding

Category: Generalllabree @ 1:06 pm

Jess and I are in the car on our way home from Tris and Katies wedding in Brandt Lake, New York. Tris and Katie are two of my very good friends from college. Tris was in our wedding last month.

Their reception was at Jimbo’s at the Point on Brandt Lake, a large “outdoors” themed hall. The meal was a full turkey dinner. The DJ kept the dance floor grooving through the night and even got in some of our random (but sentimental) requests. After the “main party” there was a bonfire on the beach with free pizza! This was followed by more drinking and partying in the cabins till late in the evening. In the morning we sat around and made fun of eachother and ate breakfast.

One of the best things about this weekend, other than the fact that we got to see two special people get hitched, was getting to see my fraternity brothers and friends from Clarkson. Some of whom I haven’t seen in over 5 years and probably won’t see again for a long time. It was great to be able to introduce them to my wife, catch up and tell stories of the glory days, and have them fill Jess in a little on my wild and crazy college years.

Congratulations Tris and Katie!

Upper Dam

Fishing!

Jess and I went fishing today to the “Upper Dam” located between Mooselookmeguntic Lake, and Richardson Lake.  This looks to be a very popular spot – there were 12 other people fishing around us and 3 were leaving as we got there, especially after the close of regular fishing season since it is open late.  On the lake side of the dam we could see the trout swimming and jumping to feed on the surface.  While we were fishing we saw a couple nice size fish landed, but we weren’t able to catch any ourselves.  I think we were there a little too early in the day, we might go back tomorrow a little later.  It’s a gorgeous location and really looks like a great spot to take a canoe, maybe come up the lower lake to the dam.  Even though we didn’t catch any it was nice to be outside and fishing.  Jess’ cast is really coming along. (She’s been bit by the fishing bug and is quite obsessed with getting her own equipment.  She was rather pissed when she lost her new Black Ghost fly this afternoon.)  :)

Rangeley in the Fall

Category: Generalllabree @ 6:46 pm

After getting a bunch of groceries at the local IGA, Jess and I spent a good part of the day exploring the area around Rangeley, Maine. The mountains and lakes were beautiful with the fall foliage. We went to a few scenic vistas and one museum dedicated to a psycho-analyst from the early 1900’s, Wilhelm Reich. Pretty neat stuff, tomorrow we’re off to go fishing.

Up to Camp

Category: Generalllabree @ 9:39 pm

Went to camp this weekend with Jess, my dad and my good friend Jimmy.  We went to go salmon fishing on the river, however it was clear that many other people had the same plan.  The river had been fished hard and I was only able to round up one salmon from a spot I was familiar with.  We tried everything, old spots, new spots, new flies and fishing for the whole day, unfortunately no one had any better luck.  So instead we went for a drive on the logging roads, and then back to camp for dinner.  The weather was great, the fire was warm and the food was filling.  Nothing recharges the soul like a trip to camp.  Pictures of the trip will be posted soon!
